Microdiscectomy

Microdiscectomy

Microdiscectomy is a routine outpatient procedure commonly used to treat symptomatic lumbar herniated discs and sciatica. Success rates are extremely high with good and excellent outcomes routinely in the 85-95% range. Microdiscectomy is considered the “gold standard” procedure in the treatment of persistent symptomatic lumbar herniated discs against which all other procedures are compared.

Microdiscectomy is a minimally invasive microsurgical technique that requires only a very small incision which minimizes trauma to normal tissues and maximizes quick recovery. Microdiscectomy can dramatically relieve the radiating leg pain, numbness and muscle weakness caused by lumbar disc herniations. It is quite common for our patients to report significant reductions in leg pain immediately in the recovery room.

We specialize in Microdiscectomy and other treatments for herniated discs. Many of our patients are athletic and/or have high physical work demands. We invite you to review the experiences of our patients who have chosen microdiscectomy by visiting our Patient’s Stories Project.

To find out if microdiscectomy is right for you, please call and schedule an appointment with Dr. Nelson, or enter your name and phone number in the boxes at the lower right of your screen and a member of our scheduling staff will contact you.
